Five-room home in 90 seconds : Illy Push Button House
The Illy Push Button House by Adam Kalkin looks to be designed for those who want the things to happen the James Bond style. The house, built within a standard shipping container, takes just 90 seconds to expand to reveal a five-room home, complete with kitchen, dining area, bedroom, living room and library. The best part is that everything has been made from recycled materials.
There are hydraulic cylinders controlled by a computer system within the kitchen island. This ingenious Bond-styled house is on display at New York City’s Time Warner Center from November 29 to December 29, 2007 to show how mobile mechanics could be used in various situations, such as disaster-relief housing, an exhibition space or a sustainable home. During the holiday season, Illy invites coffee lovers, design enthusiasts and shoppers to visit the Push Button House and enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee while learning more about Illy’s commitment to sustainability.
